St. Joseph's Restoration
Marshall, Texas
The original neo-Classical altarpiece at St. Joseph's was destroyed in 1972. In 2009 the pastor and parish expressed an interest in restoring the original beauty of the church. The existing altar of celebration was a poorly designed and constructed marble clad structure fixed to the floor. Designs were developed that allowed a casing to fit around this existing altar so that it would have greater beauty and dignity, and blend stylistically with the proposed new retable where the Eucharist would be reserved. Finishing was done by John Claas. Gold leafing and marbleizing is by Charles James.
