Holy Souls Memorial Chapel
Little Rock, Arkansas
In 2013 Holy Souls parish renovated their Eucharistic Chapel into a parish memorial chapel. As there are only two parishes in the world dedicated to Our Lady of the Holy Souls, the desire was for a new and unique presentation of Mary under this title. G.R.Hoelzeman Studios collaborated closely with pastor Erik Pohlmeier, architect Greg Peckham, the parish council and a support group for women who had lost children. Parishioners were also invited to participate in the creative process. The seated image of Our Lady reflects the desire that she express motherly concern for the departed children of the Church. As the viewer enters the chapel, her gesture invites to prayer and her gaze meets the visitor. As one moves around the chapel and approaches the figure, her gesture becomes one of beckoning to the Father and her gaze appears to be directed heavenward. The three figures represent the ages of humanity.
