Holy Redeemer Church
El Dorado, Arkansas
The Tenebrae Hearse is used during the Liturgy of Hours on Good Friday and Holy Saturday. In the Tenebrae service, the fourteen unbleached candles are progressively extinquished representing the darkness which covered the earth at the Crucifixion. Only the central, white candle remains lit. This candle symbolizes Christ. The pastor of Holy Redeemer Parish is a Benedictine of Subiaco Abbey. The parish, therefore, has an unusually rich liturgical life which includes the daily celebration of the Hours. This Tenebrae Hearse is a memorial to one of the parishoners who was a Knight of the Holy Sepulcher.
